Appropriate for beginners to calligraphy and to those who have done some calligraphy but wish to practice this hand.

Hands-on Workshop taught in-person

Class Description:
Learn the fundamentals of calligraphy: what it is and how to do it. We will go over basic terms and supplies, talk about setting up your workspace, and practice basic strokes while learning about the history and techniques of Gothic Textura.

A brief overview of best practices and materials for further learning will also be discussed. Students who find it easier to draw lines that are parallel to each other than to draw perfect circles should take this beginner class.

Students who find it easier to make nice round circles than parallel lines should consider taking my Irish Half Uncial beginner class instead.

Warning: We use dip pens with black sumi ink that is messy and permanent. It will not come out of fabric. You have been warned!

Classroom Space Requirements:
We will need a sink or other place to wash pens after the class. We will need enough table space and chairs for the number of students.

Are Children Welcome?
Children are always welcome at my classes if they are willing to listen and try the exercises.

Supplies:
$8 USD supply fee includes a dip pen with 2mm steel nib, a small jar of ink, paper, and a handout with ductus and guidelines. Practice paper will also be provided and we will clean nibs at the end of class.

If you have your pen and ink, there is a reduced class fee of $4 USD. Please contact me if the supply fee is an issue for you to make arrangements.
