Cadet Contract/Agreement

Once upon a time I studied historical rapier. I created this agreement and became a cadet (fencing student) to Don Christopher Stanley.

The text was adapted from “The Noble Science: A Study and Transcription of Sloane Ms. 2530, Papers of the Masters of Defence of London, Temp. Henry VIII to 1590”. Christopher and I worked on the words together.

The decorative initial letter ‘B’ was inspired by folio 11 of “Mira Calligraphiae Monumenta” by Georg Bocskay.

Document layout taken from an extant indenture dated dated 20 January 1592.

Secretarial gothic hand developed from a blend of two extant documents (copies) obtained from the National Archives (UK) and gothic bâtarde.
